COMPULSORY BODILY INJURY: Provides $20,000 per
person/$40,000 per accident for anyone injured by your auto in an at-fault
accident. It does NOT COVER
you out-of-state or on private property (such as driveways and shopping malls
or parking lots!) nor does it cover your passengers in an auto accident.
OPTIONAL BODILY INJURY TO OTHERS: This is your liability protection, in case
injury or death results. You should purchase at least enough coverage to protect
your assets (present and future) in the event of a lawsuit. It also extends
the coverage in Part 1 to include out-of-state driving and guest occupants
in your car.
DEDUCTIBLES FOR COLLISION & COMPREHENSIVE: The standard deductible
for damage to your car is $500. For additional premium, you may choose
to reduce
your deductible to $300. Higher deductible options are also available.
WAIVER OF DEDUCTIBLE: For an additional charge, the Collision deductible can
be waived in circumstances where you are 50% or less at fault in the incident
AND the at-fault party is identified. We absolutely recommend you purchase
this waiver.
UNINSURED MOTORIST: In order to protect yourself against injuries caused by
an uninsured auto, we recommend limits that are no less than the coverage provided
under the Bodily Injury section of your own policy. The compulsory limit is
$20,000 per person/$40,000 per accident; the amount you choose cannot be higher
than your Bodily Injury limits.
UNDERINSURED MOTORIST: This provides protection for you, should you or
your passengers be injured by an underinsured vehicle. This coverage will
pay
the difference between what can be collected from the at-fault driver’s
policy and the amount of coverage you purchase to the extent of any unpaid
damages
you sustain.
LEASED AUTOS: Customers should be aware that if a lease contract is terminated
before expiration, penalties may be imposed by the leasing company. If
the contract is canceled because the vehicle is a total loss following
an accident
or theft, the insurance company’s settlement is based on the actual
cash value of the auto, and will not cover any penalties that are charged
as a result
in the cancellation of the lease.
LOW ANNUAL MILEAGE CREDIT: If your annual mileage is 5,000 miles or less, you
are eligible for a 10% premium credit on your policy. Annual mileage in the
5,000 to 7,500 range will result in a 5% premium credit. We recommend that
you save the computer slip you receive at auto inspection time, in order to
demonstrate your annual mileage.
HOUSEHOLD DRIVERS: All household members should be listed as drivers on your
policy, even if they have their own auto. Payment for Collision losses may
be withheld when the household member operating at the time of the accident
is not listed on your policy and, had they been listed, would have generated
additional premium.
JUNIOR OPERATORS: The new Junior Operator Law prohibits new drivers from carrying
passengers under 18 for the first six months, in addition to several operating
restrictions. Call us for more details on this law if you will be adding a
new driver.
PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION: Massachusetts auto policies provide $8,000 in total
benefits under this mandatory coverage. Of the total limit, $2,000 is available
for medical expenses as a result of any injury and the balance may be used
towards lost wages, substitute services, etc. You may choose to take a deductible
for yourself and/or household members under this section, though we do not
recommend it, as this coverage will provide for many of the items not covered
by medical or disability insurance. NOTE: Motorcycles are excluded under this
coverage part for operators and their passengers.
MEDICAL PAYMENTS: Covers medical expenses for you, your household members and
passengers, over and above amounts covered by Personal Injury Protection. The
minimum amount you may buy is $5,000. Higher limits are available for an additional
premium. NOTE: If you own a motorcycle we strongly recommend you purchase this
coverage.
PROPERTY DAMAGE: Covers damage to other’s cars or property in an
accident caused by the driver of your auto. Due to the rising costs of
new cars and
repair bills, we recommend that you carry a limit of at least $100,000.
Increasing this coverage is very inexpensive; in most cases, it is no more
than a few
dollars a year.
RENTAL: Substitute Transportation coverage may be purchased to cover the cost
of alternate transportation due to disablement of your auto following a Collision
or Comprehensive loss. There are three options available: $15 per day/$450
maximum OR $30 per day/$900 maximum OR $100 per day/$3000maximum. This coverage
can be used to cover the costs of taxis, trains and similar, as well as substitute
autos you may rent.
TOWING: May be purchased in conjunction with Comprehensive coverage and will
pay up to $25 per disablement for a $4 per year, or $50 per disablement for
an $8 annual cost.
CANCELLATION POLICY: As companies are no
longer using certified mail for cancellation notices and we find our clients
are receiving the notices via regular mail,
we may NOT notify our clients with a separate letter when a cancellation
notice has been issued.
