The Massachsetts Medical Society Grounds
In search of a gift to donate in honor of the new building at Waltham Woods, the MMS Alliance turned to Sally Hill, one of the landscape architects who designed the gardens. After some research on sundials and other historical garden ornaments, the Alliance chose an armillary sphere, handmade in England, mounted on a roughly hewn pedestal of deer island granite. The gift ;ends a sculptural effect to the gardens and combines the concepts of time, history, and the changing universe into one element. A formal dedication took place on Wednesday, December 13 at the Board of Trustees meeting on December 13. Beverly George, Alliance president and Gerrilu Bruun, Alliance immediate past president presented the gift at the dedication. MMS President Virginia Latham, M.D. accepted the gift on behalf of the MMS membership.
